Current Project
 One in four Cambodian women suffers domestic violence at the hands of their husbands, including physical, sexual, verbal and emotional abuse.

 CAMBOW is conducting a campaign to raise awareness of this tragic statistic and to help victims escape from the vicious circle of suffering and silence created by domestic violence. It also seeks to change the cultural belief that domestic violence is a "private family problem", which often results in reluctance from the authorities to interfere.

 Since 2000, CAMBOW has activly worked on changing the minds and raising awareness within the Cambodian society on the situation of women.

 During these past years, some primary objectives and goals have been identified to ensure CAMBOW delivers a clear, strong and unanimous message

  • To create a national network among non-government organizations advancing the cause of women;
  • To promote respect for, and observance of, women's rights through education, training, research and documentation;
  • To enforce respect for, and implementation of, the 5-10 Year Plan of Activity of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing;
  • To support efforts towards the implementation of the Plan of Action developed at the ARIAT (Asia Regional Initiative Against Trafficking) meeting in Manila, Philippines;
  • To promote the passage of laws to protect women and prevent the abuse of human rights, lobby for the revision of any law showing discrimination against women, secure effective implementation of laws, and to monitor the government's conformity to all international documents which it has ratified as a state party; and
  • This committee shall seek to become a member of international organizations for women.
